Team Building for the Employee of the Future: a case study

Team development is the most powerful way to turn up the dial on innovation, productivity and enhancing corporate culture.

By the year 2030, 375 million jobs will be lost due to automation and artificial intelligence.
The top skills of the next era will be relating to human engagement and emotional intelligence.
Organizations that understand group flow, creativity and curiosity will lead in their industries.

Here is a case study to serve as an example of one way magic can be used to educate and transform the leadership and culture of an organization.

Axis Technologies is a highly successful Data Masking company planning a leadership/marketing plan retreat.

I worked with the CEO, Michael Logan, directly to discuss their strategic objectives. After an in-depth discovery conversation, it was decided that the core objective was to provide the leadership with the tools to help their teams lead with an entrepreneurial mindset. They wanted to create more integrated, cohesive innovation conversations and empower employees at every level of the organization to take the lead. They wanted to learn an integrative, comprehensive approach toward initiating change through deeper group engagement and creative states of flow.

Five top skills needed for Leading with an Entrepreneurial Mindset

I created a training specifically for them titled, "Five Tools For Leading with an Entrepreneurial Mindset"

The most important business skills every entrepreneur most have are

1) Becoming masterful at persuasion and influence
2) Amazing their customers and amazing their team
3) Articulating their vision clearly and precisely
4) Having a plan ready to plug and play in any given situation and
5) Questioning everything

Step into the Future Workspace

I opened with a strategic question, "How would you, personally like to impact your industry over the next 15 years?

Then I took them into the future of work culture. I painted a picture of what it will look like:

  • Advanced Virtual Reality (meetings held on other planets with everyone clothed as aliens), and Augmented Reality

  • Working alongside robots and becoming co-bots (humans strapped into 'transformer' apparatus)

  • As well as transformed workspaces incorporating everything from

    • movable desks,

    • standing desks,

    • soundproof desks and

    • 'super desks' (a long desk that can fit 170 people like at the Barbarian Group HQ in NY.

What Generation X, Y, and Z's Top Talent will be Expecting From the Leadership

I also took them into the MIND of the employee of the future. They will be wanting:

  • A fairer workplace for all employees

  • Increased focus on developing employees and 'upskilling' (as automation begins to replace their jobs)

  • A deeper sense of purpose for staff

  • Teams will be more diverse than ever

  • The trust factor will be trickier as AI and Machine Learning will lead to privacy and trust issues.

Enhanced Emotional IQ, and Tools for Creating a "Toward Response" in Others

The key to highly synergized team collaboration is to ensure that everyone is in a state of flow, engagement, and excitement. They need to have tools on hand to create elevated state changes in themselves and others given the digital high-stress environment.

To equip them with a solid arsenal of tools I delivered powerful distinctions in these areas:

  • The 4 Quadrant Personality Matrix

  • The 7 Steps of the Sales Process

  • S.C.A.R.F. - Creating 'Toward' and 'Away' responses by granting or withholding Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness & Fairness

Bringing the Magic: Teaching them how to "Think in the Miracle Zone"

To round out the training, lock-in retention and create a tangible take-away for participants, they were all taught a mesmerizing magic trick.

They learned how to pass a handkerchief straight through a cell phone. They could then take this piece of magic and share it with their teams to elevate the moment, to share a new and deeper kind of engagement and to take their work culture into the miracle zone!
